Bio

Independent and persistent, I strive to live by a proverb that says “try and fail, but don’t fail to try." I am passionate about working with the community and naturally entrepreneurial, I consciously try to put myself in the shoes of others to generate practical solutions to the challenges they face. The interactions with farmers whilst working as a sales officer for a solar products company in my first year at Kepler inspired me to come up with the idea for a new automatic irrigation solution with precision farming. The solution, which I am developing and which helped me won the title of Miss Geek Rwanda 2016, uses sensors to collect data regarding soil moisture levels and automate irrigation when is needed. It analyses the data and sends advice to individual farmers help them optimize the level of water they use on their plots, saving scarce water, energy, time and money.

My education teaches me to have a positive attitude, to prioritize, to manage time, to network and forge partnerships, and to make decisions based on clear criteria and impact. After winning the Miss Geek competition in 2016, I established a small team to help develop the business model and test the suitability of different sensors.

I am regularly invited to Government of Rwanda events on innovation in agriculture and was elected as the Treasurer of the newly established “Rwanda Youth in Agribusiness Forum.” I have also been selected as #Insiders4Good Microsoft East Africa Fellow, which recognizes entrepreneurs and leaders that are developing visionary solutions to challenges in their communities. In February 2018, I will graduate and launches the first final solution to farmers.
