Explora is a publicly funded non-profit science center and children's museum. X Studio is a new wing of the museum designed to engage Albuquerque's teenage community. X Studio consist of a Makerspace, Tech Lab, lounge space, two multi-use classrooms and a Tradesyard. The makerspace is well stocked with tools and materials including: 3D printers, large laser cutter, screen printing setup, wood and metal working equipment, sewing machines, paint booth, electronics bench, etc. The Tech Lab has both mac and windows computers filled with 2D, 3D design, and CAD software, music, graphic and video production software, cameras, camcorders, A/V recording equipment, etc. One of the classroom spaces includes all the tools and infrastructure for bicycle repair, welding, and ceramics. The other is used as a hard science wet lab. The Tradesyard is an outdoor cement patio space where local trades unions come to teach pop-up classes for members. All membership, classes and materials are free for members.
