TUC Innovation Lab is an open manufacturing laboratory that offers immediate access to the initial implementation of a Proof-of-Concept (POC) or a prototype, through the provision of appropriate logistical infrastructure (3D printers, 3D scanners, CNC machines, laser cutters, plasma cutters, etc.). Easily accessible from public transport, it is uniquely located in an iconic landmark building (Galliki Scholi) right next to the National Research Foundation “Eleftherios K. Venizelos, and within close proximity to the Archeological Museum of Chania, in the historic suburb of Halepa, right in the heart of Chania. The building is a property of the Technical University of Crete, and it was specifically granted for the establishment of the TUC Lab and the newly established Technology Transfer Office. TUC Lab is currently co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
Αccessible to all members of the academic community of the Technical University of Crete, and with cutting-edge equipment it allows the wide application of rapid prototyping methods as a modern dynamic in the creation of usable objects and new products. The operation of TUC Lab multiplies the impact of applied digital technologies and practices in the learning process, as it allows the creation of "intelligent" constructions with the integration of electronic devices, in the context of a do-it-yourself culture in general, but also of the Internet of Things (IoT) regime. Strengthening the culture of making is particularly important for the Technical University of Crete, given its technological nature and the need for experimentation by members of the academic community.
Foreseen actions include workshops and events addressed not only to members of the academic community but also to students, ordinary citizens, tourists, and the youth of the city of Chania aiming to engage the local community, educate and inspire them by offering them the means to create their own projects, promote innovation, circular economy and the broader movement of creators.
Professor Panagiotis Partsinevelos is the scientific coordinator of the supporting project of TUC Lab and the Technology Transfer Office and the founder of SenseLab Space Informatics at the Technical University of Crete (www.senselab.tuc.gr).
We strongly believe that TUC Lab could be a proud member of the Fab Foundation and for this reason, we would like to ask for your guidance in this procedure. It is very important for us to be able to connect with you and provide our common ideas and expertise to the students and society of our city and Prefecture.
