The Harrison VW eLab serves students in a K-5 school in Hamilton County. The Harrison VW eLab is a place where design thinking meets digital fabrication. Students learn how to become and grow as adaptive problem solvers. Our students are provided with powerful, industry-level tools that not only turn ideas into reality by creating actual high quality products but can also be safely operated using a computer. Students use the Engineering Design Process as they engage in standards based problem/project based learning- PBLs. Our students have the opportunity to gain skills in the areas of 2D digital design, laser cutting, vinyl cutting, 3D modeling, 3D printing, fabrication, electronics, programming, and physical computing. These experiences in our VW eLab are important because they provide students opportunities to not only develop content area knowledge and technical skills, but to also develop and practice those other crucial process skills that are valued in the world & workplace. 21st century process skills, like creativity, collaboration, communication, and critical thinking are as important, if not more, to the future success of our students. In our VW eLab, these process skills are paired with a systematic approach to solving problems, and they are crucial for the careers of the future.
