Laser Cut Topology

Create accurate terrain models easily

Cetopo provides a laser cut file service that covers almost all of Finland.

Step 1:

Register here. Students can use it for free.

Step 2:

Go to the Map View. Use it to find the location you want, and select it.

Step 3:

Once you have selected an area, click the Laser Cut card to open up the laser cut configure window.

Step 4:

Configure the settings to your liking. Make sure to at least select the thickness of the material you will be using, and the dimensions of your laser cutter/sheet.
If your model is too big (Error: Some parts were too big to fit on the material), Use the Scale setting to make you model smaller, or select a smaller area, or find yourself a larger laser-cutter.

Step 5:

Preview your model by clicking the 3D preview button. This will open up a new window where you can preview how the model will look. This requires a decent computer to run smoothly. Use the X-Ray view and the Highlight tool to check if your model seems viable. Sometimes the algorithm produces very difficult to assemble models (work in progress :) ).

Step 6:

Download your model by pressing the Download Button.

Step 7:

Cut it using your laser cutter!

Step 8:

Assemble! This might be very easy or quite hard depending on your settings.
Assembly in progress. You can see the internal structure here, it makes the assembly process very easy (it locks the parts in place)
